Taking place on a sheet of frozen lake in northern Europe, this year’s Power On Ice event proved to be Bentley Motor’s most successful event yet. For the uninitiated, Power on Ice is an event where Bentley rounds up samples of their uber-luxury cars and heads north until they find a suitable chunk of ice upon which they push the cars to their limits.

This year’s event had over 200 attendees on the edge of the Arctic Circle in Finland, very near Russian border.  The environment up there is frosty and harsh.  Far from everyday driving, and where all-wheel drive is must, it was the perfect environment to showcase the best Bentley has to offer.

Attendees drove everything from the Mulsanne Speed to the very rare and very powerful Bentley Continental GT3-R on tracks designed by four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen. Cut through the snow that lays on six foot thick frozen lake, the course is outlined in snow banks and flags.

Bentley Motors also raised money for charity through the event. Two spaces on Power on Ice were donated by Bentley as prizes in a competition that raised over £11,000 for Care2Save, providing funds to improve excellence in hospice and palliative care around the world. The two lucky charity competition winners joined the team in Finland.

Care2Save winner Ian Bradley, commented – “Getting behind the wheel of a Bentley on a frozen lake in Finland was truly exhilarating. The opportunity to passenger with Juha Kankkunen, while enjoying luxurious hospitality, contributed to what was a once in a lifetime experience, and all for a worthy cause, Care2Save.”

In addition to the Mulsanne Speed and GT3-R, a range of Continental GTs and Flying Spurs utilized all-wheel drive systems to conquer the slippery driving challenge with ease. Constantly readjusting the levels of power to the front and rear wheels depending on available traction, Bentley’s Grand Tourers ensure optimal grip is delivered regardless of the imperfections of the surface.

Attendees also participated in snowmobile rides and ice-karting provide a dynamic challenge at a different pace. The program ran for the month of February and consisted of two full days of extreme driving deliver by Kankkunen and in-car tuition from the Bentley Ice Driving Team, creating a truly memorable Bentley experience.  You can find more information about Power on Ice here.
