2015 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Nighthawk Limited Edition

Rolls-Royce is kicking out so many press releases for their bespoke series of cars that it can be hard to keep them all straight. Today we’ve picked out a Phantom Drophead Coupé that we think is exceptionally sharp, if not a little ironic.

The car pictured above is a 2015 Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupé from the Rolls-Royce bespoke team. Called the Nighthawk, nine of these DHC’s (Drophead Coupé) were unveiled in Phoenix, AZ during the Super Bowl XLIX by the Rolls-Royce Bespoke team. Inspired by the stealth technology used in modern military aircraft, each of the nine Nighthawks feature modern materials and subtle colors to create a very eye catching, contemporary Rolls-Royce.

For the exterior of the Nighthawk, Rolls-Royce went with a brilliant, color called Diamond Black Metallic. The hoods were then painted a subtly contrasting color called Matte Diamond Black. Instead of the bright color that the standard DHC has around its windshield, these cars featured a paint inspired by radar-absorbent material (RAM) used in aviation.

The dash panels are carbon fiber as are the door panels. The instrument panel also features carbon fiber along with orange tipped indicator hands to simulate the look of aircraft instrumentation. The fact that each Nighthawk is so rare is memorialized with unique badging and door sill plates that read “One of Nine.”

Whenever we see carbon fiber, we always think of the weight savings the material brings. So it strikes us a humorous to see a 2 1/2 ton uber-luxury car feature it throughout its interior. We have to admit that the car looks pretty good, but we would specify it with gloss black piano finished wood instead.

“We commissioned ‘Nighthawk’ to demonstrate to our owners the unparalleled creativity of the Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Bespoke team. Bespoke is the underlying essence of our brand and its options are limited only by the imagination of our owners and how they can extend their vision to the next Rolls-Royce motor car they commission,” explained Eric Shepherd, President of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars North America. “Additionally, ’Nighthawk’ exudes an understated image of power with confidence, a characteristic many of our owners share,” he added.

Like all Rolls-Royce motor cars, ‘Nighthawk’ is powered by a 6.7l V12 engine paired with a buttery smooth six speed automatic transmission. Adaptive LED headlamps adorn the front-end, including a glowing bar of LED Daytime Running Lamps, which give the cars a distinctive look the Phantom Nighthawk.
