Bentley Team HTP was in competition on August 22nd for Round 5 of the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburging. Cold temperatures and rain challenge the teams for both races at the track known as the Green Hell.
Bentley Team HTP qualified well on a dry track on Friday. Both Continental GT3’s, drive by Luca Stolz and Vincent Abril and Clemens Schmid and Fabian Hamprecht put down times fast enough to be on the first two rows.
In the first race, Schmidt started from the front row in P2 and took the lead at the end of his stint. Both Bentleys had trouble during the driver change stops at the halfway point and ended up loosing ground in the rain. caught out in racing slicks instead of rain tires as the weather deteriorated, the Bentleys fell back in the field. The duo of Schmid and Hamprecht would finish 13th and Stolz and Abril would finish 14th.
Sunday’s second race started on a wet track. Rain showers and multiple yellow flag periods made it difficult for the team to advance. Stolz and Abril would finish 7th and Schmid and Hamprecht 9th.
Speaking on his debut in the series, Vincent Abril said, “My debut in ADAC GT Masters was good, but unfortunately we were not as quick in wet as in the dry conditions. The Bentley had good performance and without the treacherous weather conditions, there could have been a very strong result for us.” Abril showed some serious talent at the 24 hours of Spa and will be one to watch for Bentley Team HTP.
“The performance was good this weekend and we certainly had the chance for a podium finish, but in the challenging conditions, we were unable to deploy our speed” said Bentley Team HTP team principal Norbert Brückner said. “On a dry track we were very fast, on a drying track and in wet conditions we had some deficits. We have to work on our setup in these conditions, but I’m sure we will come back strong at the next round at Sachsenring.”
