Bentley Team Absolute Racing traveled to Thailand last weekend for the second round of the GT Asia Series. The team brought three cars but was missing one driver as Andrew Palmer is still recovering in the hospital following his accident at Lime Rock. The team had him on their minds throughout the weekend as told by Absolute Racing Team Manager Ingo Matter, who said the weekend was “for Andrew.”

Accomplished Brit Duncan Tappy took Palmer’s spot at the event. Tappy drove quite well in the Continental GT last year for Absolute and was quickly up to speed in this year’s car. He and co-driver Vutthikorn Inthraphuvasak, took two second place finishes in the #9 Continental GT3.

“No one wants to be called-in to replace a driver who is unable to race but I was determined to go there and do a good job for Andrew and the rest of the Bentley Team Absolute guys,” said Tappy. “Vutthikorn did a fantastic job all weekend and it was great to take two podiums with him at his home round. Despite the great results, our thoughts are always with Andrew as he recovers in hospital. I hope I did you proud, mate.”

Palmer’s teammate in the US for the Pirelli World Challenge, Adderly Fong was with Andrew Kim in the #7 Bentley Continental GT3. Fong and Kim would earn a third place finish in the race #1.

The #8 Bentley was driven by Jonathan Venter and another substitute driver: Bentley Team ABT’s Fabien Hamprecht. Hamprecht was taking 2015 Championship driver, Keita Sawa, who was finishing preparations for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The #8 car was in position for Absolute’s fourth podium of the weekend when a penalty set them back nearly a lap.

Bentley Team Absolute team manager Ingo Matter added: “These podiums are for Andrew. He is in all our thoughts and, for every team member, racing without him there was tough. However, the team did an amazing job all weekend and I’m really proud of each of them.”

Bentley Team Absolute next races at Road America in Wisconsin for the next round of the Pirelli World Challenge. Yours truly will be covering the event for The Pursuit.
