Bentley Continental GT3 24 Hours Of Spa

2015 was a solid year for Bentley Motorsport. The company finished the year with 18 GT3 cars completed, several wins in a diverse number of GT championships on several continents, and two points championships. With the 2015 season behind them, Bentley has begun preparations for the 2016 racing season and today has announced that they have secured their drivers lineup for their Works teams.

For next year, Bentley is breaking up their all British team in the #7 car by signing 20-year-old Vincent Abril. Abril will join Brits Steven Kane and Le Mans winning veteran Guy Smith. Abril impressed in 2015, winning the Blancpain Sprint Series Championship for Bentley Team HTP with his co-driver Maxi Buhk. He stepped up into his first endurance race at the 24 hours of Spa where Team HTP Motorsport was the highest finishing Bentley. Abril managed his Bentley well during the endurance race, pushing for faster lap times, while not exceeding the limits.

About the edition of Abril, Bentley’s Director of Motorsport Brian Gush said, “Joining the Works team is a natural step for a driver of Vincent’s talent. We were very impressed by his performance this year with Bentley Team HTP, and his championship win was the reward for a strong and consistent season. We have close relationships with our customer teams, and the flow of driving talent between us is one of our key principles for success. I’m confident that Vincent will be a great addition to our established pairing of Steven and Guy and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can achieve together.

“It has been a very good year for me and, after winning the Sprint Series title this year, my promotion to Bentley Motorsport is a great next step,” said Abril. “I’m really grateful to everyone at Bentley Team HTP and to Maxi Buhk for giving me the opportunity to win this year, and can’t wait to race with two guys as talented and experienced as Steven and Guy. I’m looking forward to fighting for the championship with them, but not to battling Maxi on the track!”

Joining the effort for Bentley’s Works team are Andy Soucek, Maxime Soulet and Maxi Buhk in the #8 car. This trio ran together in several races in 2015 and are expected to be very strong in 2016.

“Retaining our current lineup for car #8 is very rewarding,” said Gush. “Andy, Maxime and Maxi have formed a very strong team in the last few months and they’ve all proved an excellent turn of speed. We have high hopes for them next year.”
