Looking back on 2015, there were many highlights for Bentley enthusiasts. After all, it isn’t everyday that the exclusive luxury auto maker launches an entirely new product line like Bentley did this year with the Bentayga SUV. However, the highlight of the year for this author was time spent at my favorite track with my auto brand.
The track was Road America, in Elkhart Lake, WI, and the brand was, you guessed it, Bentley. I happen to be a huge sports car racing fan and despite Bentley’s program being so young, I am totally on board with Team Bentley. So it was in Wisconsin this past June where I was lucky enough to catch three races of the Pirelli World Challenge while spending time with Bentley Team Dyson Racing.
Bentley Team Dyson was very fast in every qualifying session and race. Butch Leitzinger set a track record and Chris Dyson brought home first place on Friday. Being right there with Bentley’s U.S. partners, customers, and fans was exciting and the only experience I’ve had a motorsport event where it felt like sitting on the home side at a football game. If you get a chance to attend one of Bentley’s events next year, take advantage of it, even if you’re not a race fan.
Sadly, it was confirmed yesterday by Dyson that they are not going to race Bentleys in 2016. While this isn’t exactly news, it does put an end to Bentley’s first chapter in North American sports car racing.
In a press release, team principal Rob Dyson said, “I’m proud of what the team accomplished over the past two seasons,” Dyson said. “It was an honor for us to directly represent the Bentley brand in North America. Bentley is an absolutely first-class organization and it was a pleasure working with our new friends. It was satisfying helping them highlight the performance qualities of both the Continental GT3 and all the other terrific cars that Bentley markets in North America.”
Well said by Dyson, whose team was a great ambassador for the Bentley brand. To get a glimpse of the magic, check out the highlight video below from June, 2015.
